Samarkand Uzbekistan

Samarkand, also spelled Samarqand, is perhaps the most famous city in modern Uzbekistan, with its historic city center recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once a key hub on the Silk Road, Samarkand is a cultural treasury of the East, preserving stunning medieval architecture known for its intricate beauty and distinctive forms. Registan Square, often called the pearl of Central Asia, is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Nearby, the Shakhi-Zinda Complex—among Samarkand’s most mysterious and unique architectural ensembles—stands close to the grand Bibi-Khanym Mosque.
